Thesis Countdown (part 15)

22 days to go…

Chapter 5 continues to be tough to judge. The parts of the paper which were written collaboratively make sense to me, but are hard to translate into language which I can properly support. I spent quite some time getting a new figure into the chapter, of which I am rather proud. The figure takes up an entire page in glorious colour, showing different state superpositions of electronic states which I’ve showed off on this blog before. This particular case shows some quite interesting consequences of the experiment I’ve implemented and why it’s novel compared to previous experiments (hint: the pictures are prettier).

I think that the chapter is going very well now. I’ve spent most of the time working hard on making sure it’s introduced well – half of the effort that goes into good science is really all about getting out the appropriate context. With that in mind, spending most of your time working on the introduction and the conclusion of your best chapter seems like a good time investment, to me.

Anyway, things aren’t terrible today. Maybe tomorrow I’ll get Chapter 5 finished and we can enter the home stretch!
